    公歷9月10日，是我國(guó)的教師節(jié)。我國(guó)歷史上曾建立過教師節(jié)。1931年，教育家邰爽秋、程其保等在南京中央大學(xué)集會(huì)，發(fā)表要求“改善教師待遇，保障教師工作和增進(jìn)教師修養(yǎng)”的宣言，并議定6月6日為教師節(jié)，也稱雙六節(jié)。不久，國(guó)民黨政府先是同意6月6日為教師節(jié)，后又將教師節(jié)改為8月27日(農(nóng)歷孔子生日)。

建國(guó)后，中央人民政府曾恢復(fù)6月6日為教師節(jié)，教育部通告各地教育工作者，可以根據(jù)實(shí)際情況自行組織慶祝活動(dòng)。1951年全國(guó)教育工會(huì)成立，教育工作者被確認(rèn)為工人階級(jí)的一部分。1951年4月19日，教育部長(zhǎng)和中國(guó)教育工會(huì)全國(guó)委員會(huì)主席發(fā)表書面談話，宣布“五一國(guó)際勞動(dòng)節(jié)”同時(shí)為教師節(jié)。但由于這一天缺少教師的特點(diǎn)，執(zhí)行的結(jié)果并不理想。特別是1957年以后，在“左”的思想影響下，教師不受重視，教師節(jié)實(shí)際上已不再存在。

近年來，我國(guó)政府采取了許多措施，動(dòng)員全社會(huì)尊重教師，提高教師的地位，改善教師的工作和生活條件。為了進(jìn)一步提高教師的政治地位和社會(huì)地位，形成尊師重教、尊重知識(shí)、尊重人才的社會(huì)風(fēng)尚，推動(dòng)教育事業(yè)的發(fā)展，根據(jù)全國(guó)人大代表、全國(guó)政協(xié)委員和各界人士，特別是各地教師的多次提議，以及各地開展尊師活動(dòng)的經(jīng)驗(yàn)，國(guó)務(wù)院于1985年1月11日，向全國(guó)人民代表大會(huì)常務(wù)委員會(huì)提出關(guān)于確定每年9月10日為教師節(jié)的議案。同年1月21日舉行的第六屆全國(guó)人民代表大會(huì)上，同意關(guān)于建立教師節(jié)的議案，決定9月10日為教師節(jié)。

確定9月10日為教師節(jié)，是因?yàn)樾律雽W(xué)伊始，即開始尊師重教活動(dòng)，可以給教師教好、學(xué)生學(xué)好創(chuàng)造良好的氣氛。同時(shí)，9月份全國(guó)性節(jié)日少，便于各方面集中時(shí)間組織活動(dòng)和突出宣傳報(bào)道，促進(jìn)在全國(guó)范圍內(nèi)形成尊師重教、尊重知識(shí)、尊重人才的良好社會(huì)風(fēng)尚。

建立教師節(jié)，標(biāo)志著教師在我國(guó)受到全社會(huì)的尊敬。這是因?yàn)榻處煹墓ぷ髟诤艽蟪潭壬蠜Q定著我們國(guó)家的未來。教師的工作同每個(gè)家庭、每個(gè)兒童、少年、青年息息相關(guān)。在人類社會(huì)的發(fā)展和進(jìn)步中，教師起著巨大的作用。教師是鑄造人類文明的工程師，是人類文明的傳播者和建設(shè)者。人類文明發(fā)展的連續(xù)性，有賴于一代又一代的教師的勞動(dòng)。一個(gè)社會(huì)、一個(gè)國(guó)家、一個(gè)民族，如果沒有教師辛勤的、有效的勞動(dòng)，那么，這個(gè)社會(huì)、國(guó)家和民族的文明進(jìn)程就會(huì)遭受損失。所以，一部文明史，離開教師的因素，是不可想象的。

此后，每年的教師節(jié)，全國(guó)各地的教師都以不同方式慶祝自己的節(jié)日。通過評(píng)選和獎(jiǎng)勵(lì)，介紹經(jīng)驗(yàn)，幫助解決工資、住房、醫(yī)療等方面的實(shí)際困難，改善教學(xué)條件等，大大提高了廣大教師從事教育事業(yè)的積極性。
